adding to my repertoire

Tonight I made a delicious hearty chowder. Its was corn and potato chowder, using a recipe I found on Food Network. Check it out, its super yummy! I have to say it was pretty simple to make and I added a can of cream corn which I definitely think added to the corn flavor since the corn could have def. gotten lost in the all the potatoes. Try it out next time your stumped on what to make for dinner :)

Thursday.

Thank you all for telling me about you dogs and getting them fixed (there really is no delicate way to say that is there?). Stella's appointment is for next Tuesday and I'm a very sad/nervous mommy for having to leave her overnight.

Also, RIP iHome. I'm now on the search for a new one. Not exactly money I want to spend, but how can I get by without my alarm clock/ipod player??

Today I am working this afternoon at The Primrose Shop and babysitting after work so it should be a full day-- maybe I'll have some more gems from McKenna to share afterwards.

Sharks and Minnows

HI there!

I hope you all had great weekends! I spent time with friends, made a little money babysitting, went to church and spent Sunday afternoon with Lukey. During our lovely Sunday afternoon, Luke decided to see how Stella felt about the pool....the verdict is in and I think she liked it:

Speaking of Stella, I'm calling the vet today to get a recommendation on when to get her spayed--she's 7 months old now. Any of you who have dogs, feel free to let me know when it was you got your dogs fixed. (Can you tell I am lacking a full time job and spend a lot of time with my dog--lol)

Gossip Girl returns tonight!! Can I get a WOOOO HOOO?? Is it wrong to miss a show when its not on?

Also, congratulations to our friend Lulu from The Dirty Martini Diaries who is officially a Mrs.!

Happy Monday and don't forget to use my 20% off Ball and Back coupon. You only have until Wednesday :)

Litterbugs...

Four year old McKenna shared this bit of wisdom with me yesterday:

"Miss *Monogram*, if everyone would stop throwing trash on the ground, the world would be as shiny as a can!"

Pictures as Promised!

I promised I'd post pictures of the adorable gift I got bf Luke's nephew for his first birthday and here they are:
The bucket had a swimsuit, soft seahorse, squirt toys, sunglasses and dolphins that you can wind up and they will flip their fins! The book seems random I know but seeing as his name is Nate, I couldn't pass it up. Did anyone else read this book as a kid??

I hope you all had a great Easter--ours was great, low-key and relaxing day. Church was awesome and it was fun talking to all my little ones about the real meaning of Easter!

Here's to a great week--crossing my fingers on an email from a couple of jobs I've applied for!

Happy Birthday Baby Sister!

{Baby Sister on the left, Cousin on the right}

Happy 19th Birthday!!

I'll admit that I still picture you the way you appear in this photo and I am regularly alarmed by the fact that you live on your own 4 hours away and often operate a car unsupervised.

You are by far the coolest person I know and although I've always tried to set a good example in the hopes you were looking up to me. The truth is I find I've learned so much from you. I'm so proud of you baby sister. I love you.

Monogrammed Lampshades!

Check out these adorable lampshades from Shades of Light brought to my attention by Amanda! Look at how great these monogrammed shades would look in your home:

There are four different fonts to choose from: circle, script (name only), curlz (name only), & roman block. I think the circle font above, is my favorite. The shades are a reasonable 59.00 and are available in fun colors like teal, lime and hot pink. I think it would be great to bring one of these shades into a room using one in pink or teal as a bright pop of an accent color.

Visit Shades of Light's blog to gain inspiration for your home and to find new designers, tips and tricks!

Enjoy! Let me know if you decide to get a lampshade, I'd love to see what you've picked out :)

Why this week is going to be great!

  • Today has been a most productive day and its only 3:00.
  • Dad is headed to Augusta today to watch The Master's practice round on Tuesday. He's an avid golfer and gives lessons at the club in our neighborhood and has NEVER been to Augusta National. I'm so excited for him!
  • Wednesday is Sister's 19th birthday! She'll be home to celebrate this weekend and at my house we are all about the birthdays :)
  • My bf's nephew Nate turns 1 on Wednesday! His gift is going to be so cute! I'll post a picture when I pull it all together later this week :)
  • Easter Sunday is less than a week away and I love Easter. Jesus, Easter dresses and Easter baskets--love it!
Here's to great weeks all around!

The Take-Care (of yourself) Clinic

Cold is still hanging on so this morning Mom persuades me to go to the Take-Care Clinic at Walgreen's ( there is little or no waiting and a Nurse Practitioner checks you out) thinking it would be a quick and easy way to determine what's wrong with me and get me on my way. After a week of sniffling and coughing, I thought this sounded like a fab idea. My neighbor went a couple of months ago when she had a sinus infection and was impressed by the efficiency. My neighbor did not have Evelyn. Now Evelyn was a very nice lady but being nice doesn't necessarily mean you are good at your job. I go in and Evelyn proceeds to ask me lots of questions about my symptoms and my health history. After I answered all the questions Evelyn proceeds to vacillate about what my condition could possibly be..."Well it could be allergies or it could be that it started with allergies and now it's a sinus infection..." then she tells me that "the only way to actually determine if you have a sinus infection is to do a CT scan and you know, those are expensive." Really Evelyn? Because my regular doctor has previously diagnosed me with a sinus infection without the aid of a CT scan. When I told her I was taking Mucinex, she says "but that doesn't have an antihistimine does it?" I don't know Evelyn, isn't that more your territory? To top it all off, she writes me 3 (count 'em 3) prescriptions. One for an antibiotic, should I have the indeterminable sinus infection, one for allergy nose spray and one for Zyrtec-D. I feel like I should put them all up on the wall and throw a dart, see what I hit. I left feeling so silly--like I was supposed to have the answers for this lady instead of the other way around. So much for my shortcut--next time I'll make an appointment with my internist.
