Tuesday.

This morning I was out and about running errands (one of which was mailing my Pink Swap goodies to Preppy Pink Party Girl--although regretfully I forgot to photograph it. Hopefully PPPG will post a pic when she receives it). I went to Target and one of the things I needed were those pads you put in your eyelash curler and no one sells those anymore! I swear, I looked through all the brands and i couldn't find any. I was forced to buy a new eyelash curler instead. So much for trying to be resourceful instead of wasteful.

I laid out for thirty minutes today and it felt wonderful, but I must admit as I perused the Washington Post's school closures today online, part of me wished I was curled up in my old townhouse with a fire going, eating soup and watching the snow fall. It is January after all.

If you haven't read my sister's blog Plan Acourtingly, please read this post from yesterday. It is hilarious. And just so you know I fall into category 3 quite often ;)

sending warm hugs to my friends blanketed w/snow and ice.

Google Reader

OK. What I'm about to share is going to make me a blogging loser, but I just discovered google reader like 2 weeks ago. I would hear you all talk about it but wasn't sure where it was or how it worked. But I am now a google reader user and I can't imagine going back to the days when I used the blogger dashboard and clicked individually on each post.

Disappointment

I found out this morning that I did not get the job I had been interviewing for. Sad times. I'm sure this means I wasn't supposed to be there but its still disappointing.

I don't mean to be a downer, just wanted to share in case anyone was curious as to what was happening on the job front. The good news is, I don't have to leave Stella at home quite yet :)

honest to goodness

The fabulous Lou Lou has tagged me for an Honest Scrap award...thank you Lou Lou.

The rules are:

1. Choose a minimum of 7 blogs that you find brilliant in content or design.
2. Show the 7 winners names and links on your blog, and leave a comment informing them that they were prized with "Honest Scrap." Well, there's no prize, but they can keep the nifty icon.
3. List at least 10 honest things about yourself.

Everything you always wanted to know but were afraid to ask:

1. I firmly believe in the ability of a McDonald's quarter pounder w/ cheese and french fries to completely turn around a bad day.
2. I love love love planners. I'm completely lost without mine.

3. You know those baby corn cobs in Chinese food? I'm repulsed by them. I once had
an unfortunate experience involving baby corn and I can't even look at it.
4. I was a cheerleader in high school ( i know, i know, it's
shocking!). And I love cheerleading! I try to take in a couple of competitions every year, especially College Nationals, which unfortunately I missed this past weekend. If I had more time, I'd like to coach a middle
or high school team.
5. I'm kind of a homebody. I like getting out as much as the next girl but I really love staying in with some take-out and a movie on a friday night.

6. When I am out and about, I am that annoying girl who tries to photograph everyone and the goings on.
7. I love dachshunds--obvi, you've all seen stella
8. I love books. I like to read but I also really like acquiring books. My house will one day have a beau
tiful library with built-in bookshelves.
9. I am 21 and have spent one third of my life in all the places I've lived. FL, Baltimore and FL again!

10. I'm glad I don't have to go to school anymore but I miss buying school supplies and I was really good at school. Hopefully, I'll get the chance to be really good at something else soon :)

In other news...
Grosgrain Lane tagged me for the " find the closest book, go to the page 56, 5th sentence,
etc." so here it goes...

Long Time Leaving: Dispatches from Up South by Roy Blou
nt Jr.
pg. 56/ fifth sentence
Reruns of Hogan's Heroes are very popular in Germany right now. Let's talk about that some other time.
In this country there's a book out called The Redneck Manifesto. Its author, Jim Goad isn't Southern: " My mother was urban Philly garbage, my father was rural Vermont scum. Together they fled to a concrete Dogpatch five miles outside the City of Brotherly Love."

What a random passage. The book is really funny and has amusing anecdotes about being a Southerner and living up north.
I think I'm the last one to post these tags/awards, so if you haven't participated, join on in :)

Snuggling...

Even here in the sunshine state we are waking up to cooler than normal temps. I'm snuggled on the couch with stella in my dachshund pjs and monogrammed VS robe.

In case you are wondering what doxie pjs look like (P.S. they are on sale at the gap):

I survived my second interview and everything went well. They said I would be hearing from them early next week. Keep your fingers crossed readers :)

I'm still so in awe of "the miracle on the hudson." What an unbelievable blessing all 155 people made it out safely. Next time I fly, I hope that man is my pilot--so brilliant :)

Sister
comes home today for a long weekend which should be fun--we plan on renting the Duchess, which we've both been wanting to see but never made it to the theater to do so. And maybe a trip to the farmer's market if its not too cold :)

Happy Weekend!

Just to clarify

In my book review of The House on First Street, I call it a novel. It is actually non-fiction, a true story. But this makes it all the more fun to read. I realized it could be confusing that I called it a novel and I want to make sure you know what you're getting into :)

Book Review

I just finished Julia Reed's The House on First Street: My New Orleans Story. The book is fabulous and I highly reccommend it! Julia Reed is one of my favorite writers and her love affair with New Orleans is detailed in this novel as she attempts to renovate her dream home when a little storm called Katrina comes calling. It offers insight into what the city was like following the storm but never ceases to showcase the good people and the relentlessly jovial spirit of the city. You learn a lot about our author as well and her long road to living life in the House on First Street.

And the golden globe goes to:

I love the Golden Globes. Since I was a child I've been a sucker for televised beauty pageants and award shows. But the GGs are the best! Its TV and the movies...definitely the most bang for your buck.

Eva Mendes had one of the best head to toe looks last night in my opinon. Although there were many of our favorite celebs looking downright fabulous. Enjoy some of my favorite looks.

In other news...I scored a second interview with the company from last week!! It's Wednesday so say a little prayer for MM around 10:30.

Mission Accomplished

So the dresser is done-zo. Unfortunately the before shot is residing in my old camera of which I cannot find the USB cord to upload it. Here's a pic from the internet that gives you an idea of the before.and ta-da! the after:
Its light blue with pale yellow pulls. I'm really happy with the way it turned out. What do you think?

The interview Friday went well. Thank you to those of you who wished me luck! I'll find out next week if I've made it to the next step and I'll be sure and notify all of you, of course.

Happy Saturday.

75

Hi loves! It's my 75th post and the first of 2009--how exciting. I plan on having a giveaway soon in honor of both milestones :)

I hope the first 5 days of the new year find all of you well. I'm getting back into the swing of things, although I'm not sure what things those are quite yet as I am done with school and looking for work. But in true MM fashion, I'm creating all kinds of fun projects to keep me busy.

Currently, I'm sanding, priming and painting my dresser which I decided need a face-lift. So far I have sanded and primed all the drawers and the body of the dresser is next, come tomorrow morning. I'm photographing the process and will post pictures when the project is complete :)

I'm reading a wonderful book by Julia Reed, one of my favorite authors and columnists, of which I will give you a full report when I'm finished.

I'm also brainstorming a list of the things I love, enjoying doing, and/or am good at, to see what, if anything I could parlay into some sort of business venture. Its tough out there readers, sometimes a girl has to create a job for herself.

More posts to come, just checking in to let you know I'm still here.

Goodnight.
